bilingual staff social media booklet for clarity and compliance

client: The Department of Rural Communication Development and the Gaeltacht

role: publication designer & visual strategist

  • DRCG Staff Social Media Bilingual Booklet - design for accessible internal communication

Design a bilingual staff social media policy booklet that balanced formal policy requirements with accessibility and engagement. Midway through the project, the Department expanded to include the Gaeltacht, requiring integration of a new logo application and a full Irish-language version, all while maintaining Government of Ireland national brand compliance.

  • As Publication Designer & Visual Strategist, I:

    • Applied and adapted the Government’s unified visual identity guidelines for a dual-language format.

    • Integrated new departmental branding mid-project while preserving layout consistency.

    • Developed approachable, engaging visuals without compromising formality.

    • Conducted remote meetings with key departmental staff to gather requirements, clarify policy priorities, and ensure the design met both communication and compliance needs.

    • Ensured both English and Irish versions met legibility and accessibility standards for internal use.

    • Accessibility Focus: Structured layouts for quick scanning, with clear hierarchy and ample spacing for bilingual content.

    • Brand Compliance: Integrated the primary and secondary Government colour palettes, official typography, and grid systems across both versions.

    • Humanising the Policy: Created bespoke collage illustrations combining social media iconography with staff imagery to make the content more relatable.

    • Scalable Template: Built a flexible master layout that could be easily adapted for future internal publications.

    • Delivered a visually cohesive, bilingual publication that reinforced brand consistency across two languages.

    • Presented formal policy in an engaging, easy-to-read format, improving staff accessibility to key information.

    • Created a repeatable, scalable template now used for other internal communications.
